Time in Kansas City

Monday I drove down to Kansas City with a couple people and arrived at IHOP (International House of Prayer)around midnight. It was surreal but cool to be back there and see a bunch of people I hadn't seen in a while. I spend about two hours seeing people and hanging out. We spend all day Tuesday at IHOP and spend some good time in the prayerroom. Tuesday night we travel up to the westport neighborhood to hang out at the Kansas City Boiler Room and spend the night. We got there around midnight as well, and met a guy named Luke from Ohio. He was a campus minster too, at a school there in ohio. Anyways we had great conversation until about 2am when finally I needed to sleep. 8am: I wake up and Luke is cooking Charlie and I and himself wonder breakfast burriotos. We had a great breakfast and another good converstion until about 11:30 when we went to lunch with Wendy and David (from the Boiler Room). We ate a middle eastern resturant near by. We talk about christian community and how God is changing the paradigm of how we do ministry. In the afternoon we visit a place called Operation Breakthrough which is a elemertary school of sorts. It was started in the 60s by two nuns, and serves the local poor community by provide free or very cheap, high quality education and child care. These kids come from families where is much abuse, drug usage and neglect. It was good see these people caring for the uncared. One of the practices of the Boiler Room is to build a regular rythmn of mercy & justice, and so some of the members of the boiler room volunteer at O.B. After we left we return to the bolier room to have a discussion with Linnea (a resident artist) on creatvity in the context of the boiler room. We talked about my vision for transforming the media industry with the gospel in nyc. It was a great conversation. That evening was their weekly group gathering where the whole community comes together. After several more interesting an faith building conversations that evening and the next morning, we head back to mpls. It was good and Im glad I went. Kansas City diffently has a place in my heart now. Things are about to get more exciting seeing that I leave for los angeles tomorrow night. Sunny California here I come!
